The Fancy Reader

a blog about…erm, books?
It's always my ambition to keep a book blog going, but I keep falling into a lake of everything but books.

Hallo! Maili here. Been making a mess of my blog - under different names (McVane was probably the longest) - since the day before American actor James Stewart died.

(He probably didn't like my very first post. Basically, I slagged off 'It's a Wonderful Life', one of most depressing films I'd watched. I did express how much I love 'Harvey' in that post, though.)

Joined in force with other romance book bloggers circa 2000 and kept going until in 2005 when I decided to take a hiatus. Didn't return until 2009 - technically, I was sweet-talked into returning by Crafty Jane of Dear Author - and have been sitting happily on the edge of the Romance community since then.

Worked non-stop as a freelance in entertainment industry until early 2011 when I said "sod this" and became an opinionated layabout, which is what I'm clearly born to be.

It was either that or be a walking encyclopaedia on romance novels, films, history trivia and my grandmother's truly barbaric Scottish folk tales. (I have a phobia of fairies. They are the original vampires, did you know? Gran promised on my soul that they will some day take over the world. Hence, the phobia. True story.) Speaking of Gran, I'm a fourth-generation mixed race Scot.

Authors whose books I enjoy: Theresa Weir, Megan Chance, LaVyrle Spencer, Pamela Morsi, Cathy Yardley and about 40 more authors. Ask me for a list if interested. I have a complicated relationship with Linda Howard's books. The 'The Way We Were' kind.

Miffy was one time my primary school name tag.
